Asian Association of Pastoral Care and Supervision

A new organization has been created to help churches and individuals in the Philippines. The Asian Association of Pastoral Care and Supervision (AAPCS) has been formed by Rev. Joel Aguirre and members of the 2009 Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) team of Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. It has been formed as a partnered ministry of DPDM.

Rev. Joel Aguirre, certified pastoral care instructor under the CPSP (College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy) is the Executive Director, with Celia Munson as Associate Director, and Angie Gomez as Program Manager.

Half-year in Review: Jan-Jun 2009

This has been a wild year with much news. Comparing this year to the same period last year, we see a great reduction in the number of people being treated medically. However, this is deceptive. In February 2008, we partnered with Mission Adventure in a huge medical work through various parts of Northern Luzon. This gave especially high numbers to last year's work.

However, more than balancing this was a great increase in training and formation of a new organization: the Asian Association of Pastoral Care and Supervision (AAPCS). We are excited by all of this.

Updates

A. May 16, 2007, our team partnered with Union International Church (UIC), and a sponsoring church in the United States to do a medical mission as part of an initial outreach in Cumabao, Tumauini, Isabela. In May 2009, members of UIC and our partnering ministry, Divine Love Kids Club, travelled to Cumabao for a week of organizing and leading Vacation Bible School. This was also a great success with many individuals, mostly youth, giving their lives to Christ.

Now a small preschool and kindergarten has been started as a Christian ministry, with plans to expand over the next few years. A church there is now ministering to the community, led by Pastor Dickson, and has been growing rapidly in recent months with many new believers being baptized.

B. In 2008, we had a major medical mission in West Bacnor, Isabela. We are in the process of moving forward with a Bible training center there. Hope to have exciting news in the next few months.

C. Also in 2008, we partnered with Saved By Grace Baptist Church and had a medical mission in Daramuangan, La Union. Presently, a weekly children's Bible program is being done at the elementary school as a result of the medical outreach.

Clearly, we cannot take credit for what is going on in any location, big or small. Only God deserves credit. Still it is good to know that we had some tiny part in outreach ministry there. Tell us your stories!!
